The Filipino Social Club in Dubai welcomed a new wave of leadership during the Annual General Meeting held on August 6, 2023, at the Pullman Dubai Creek City Centre Hotel. The gathering marked a pivotal moment for the club, as they elected a new President and Board of Directors who will steer the organization through the years 2023 to 2025.
Ericson Reyes, a familiar face within the Filipino community and the incumbent President since 2019, emerged victorious in the elections. His extensive experience in community service and his dedication to the betterment of the Filipino diaspora in Dubai garnered him a majority vote during the polls held from August 8 to 12 at the Migrant Workers Office in Al Ghusais and Frontrow Office in Deira.
Throughout the years, Reyes has been an instrumental figure in the Filipino Social Club’s growth and progress. As one of the club’s founding members, he has played a pivotal role in organizing various cultural shows, sports tournaments, and fundraising events, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among Filipinos in Dubai. Moreover, he holds a seat in the Philippine Consulate General’s Advisory Council, further enhancing his ability to address the community’s needs and concerns.
In his inspiring victory speech, Reyes emphasized his commitment to fostering greater community participation in all of the Filipino Social Club’s initiatives. He expressed his desire to lead by example, tackling the pressing issues and challenges faced by the Filipino community in Dubai head-on. Under his guidance, the organization is poised to undergo positive and transformative changes.

Joining Reyes in this journey of community empowerment is the newly appointed Vice-President, Ellanie Villena. With a rich history of volunteer work and active involvement in the FilSoC’s Events Committee, Villena is well-equipped to contribute significantly to the club’s objectives. Additionally, she is an esteemed member of the Philippine Business Council in Dubai, which bolsters her understanding of community dynamics and entrepreneurial ventures.
Completing the ensemble of the new Board of Directors are individuals who bring diverse expertise and backgrounds to the table. Christian Belleza will serve as the Secretary, ensuring smooth communication and effective organization of club affairs. Iris Omandam takes on the role of Treasurer, overseeing the club’s financial matters with meticulous care. The responsibility of the Auditor falls on Ruzell Aguilar, who will ensure transparency and accountability in the organization’s fiscal practices. Zyra Rey, the newly appointed Public Relations Officer, will play a vital role in promoting FilSoC’s events and initiatives to the wider public.
The esteemed Board Members include Jomana Mohammed, Ahmad Al Matrooshi, and Cecilia Leoparte, who will each contribute their unique perspectives and skills to advance the club’s mission.
The new leadership team is wholeheartedly committed to serving the Filipino community in Dubai, championing their interests, and promoting their culture and heritage. Building on the success and achievements of the previous administration, they aspire to make the Filipino Social Club an even more vibrant and influential organization.
