Photography for PR and Marketing is one of my top engagements and some of them are Hotels and Restaurants. During the early days of the construction of Palm Jumeirah Island, I had an opportunity to shoot for a few hours at the newly established restaurant called...
West 14th New York
West 14th at the Oceana Beach Club on The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, now one of DUKES dining destinations, is a New York inspired steakhouse and grill serving specialized USDA Prime cuts of Beef and fresh seafoods, open from midday to midnight, seven days a week offering two distinct sittings – for lunch through to 3pm, and dinner from 6pm.
The restaurant is vast, giving off a feeling of space without losing any of the inviting club-like atmosphere set to become as ingrained as the West 14th ‘stamp’ that is ‘burnt’ into much of the collateral, from wooden chopping boards, through to the striking crockery and tasteful uniforms.
West 14th looks west over the Arabian Gulf and is bathed in a light, bright yet comforting hue created by the huge expanse of floor to beam windows. On second take, one notices that black, deep gray and a bold red features in much of the interior materials. The trio manage to draw upon their light side and as each day is turned into night the interior spec transforms the day-time grill into a chic restaurant and bar.
The contemporary, open-plan loft-inspired layout of the restaurant means that Mr West, the resident butcher, struts his stuff in full view of diners, up to 140 when the house is full. A specially-designed rack holds his tools in place, many of which look decidedly like weapons.
West 14th is a steak house but plenty of fish fresh from market also waits for a grilling, so as chicken and other choices depending on the day of the week. Vegetables are treated to a wondrous array of preparation styles.
The bar spills out onto West 14th’s beach side terrace, Marina Beach Bar where a suitably dressed menu and service style takes the floor. Indeed, compelling music is another West 14th signature, and its promise for crisp conversation is a natural for the service team, quickly infusing a hum-drum of interaction at dining tables sized for two to 16.
